John Isner, offers Roger Federer, his 101st, title-Miami open
Roger Federer, has become the second man in the History of Tennis to win 100+ titles. He is now just 9 titles short of the all-time Tennis legend, Jimmy Connors.
Sunday, March 31st,2019, became the memorial day that gifted, Roger Federer, his 101st, Career title, beating, John Isner, in the Miami Open final, 6-1, 6-4.
John Isner’s big serves were no match for Federer’s returns which saw Isner’s potent serves neutralized the time it left his quarters. Federer, on the other hand won, 32 of 35 points on his own serve, making Isner work for every return . At one point the journey became a gargantuan challenge that staying became a pain in his left foot which apparently got entangled during a rally.
“This is a good phase, a good stretch for me right now,” Federer said upon wining his title “I really feel super healthy. That’s why I have been able to play every day for the last four weeks. That’s something that maybe hasn’t always been the case for the last few years. So you appreciate these moments.”
Miami tournament director James Blake, a former top-five player, told Federer at the trophy presentation. “Unbelievable for you to keep winning and playing this level of tennis,” “It makes me feel like such an underachiever. We’re all just in awe.”
For his part, John Isner, had all the good words from his winning experience,
“You were entirely too good today, entirely too good this whole tournament,” Isner said. “You are entirely too good your whole career. It’s absolutely incredible what you’re doing. We’re so lucky to have you in this game, and we all want you to keep playing and literally never retire. So keep it up, man.”
Like all champions do, Federer will begin his preparations for the clay court season; He’ll play Madrid in May as a tune-up for the French Open.
“I’m not very confident going into this clay court season, I can tell you that, because I don’t even remember how to slide anymore,” Federer said. “I’m taking baby steps at this point. I’m very excited. It’s a good challenge, a good test. Confidence? It’s in no man’s land.”
