EU passes Article 13-amidst protest from GOOGLE
Probably considered as the Most Controversial law by the Social Media platforms, Article 13, has been passed by the EU.
This would mean, contents that individuals or groups who would otherwise upload on Social Media sites with ease and valor will be NOT be able to do this in EU.
More than that, EU, will hold responsible the Internet platform that facilitates such Uploads.
This would mean, Only Original Content will be solicited and that can hamper greatly Social Media cites which bank their profits on Views generated through retweets and re-uploads of content that usually does not belong to the up loader.
This would also mean the End of Memes.
News aggregators will be required to pay for snippets that go beyond “individual words or very short extracts,”. Critics say both articles could restrict how content is shared online.
Google has been very vocal of this, mentioning that it would create Digital Ghost Town.
While others disagree saying that the law will now protect, Creators and Writers , who are often the victim of social medias, with their works being liberally copied and re-twitted, with no attributes what so ever being awarded.
One performer in responding to the question, “as what he thinks about passing of Article 13, he said the following”
I am glad that finally after years of wait, this article has now been passed, I am a small time performer at a bar, and there were many times, during late nights, I will always be offered the chance to play my composition, you wouldn’t believe, to my dismay and shock, one of such performances were recorded and posted. The video was an instant success.
The person who posted the video, is still earning from my video, and here I am, getting ready to play my heart out for the night. Imagine, someone is living off your hard sweat, with easy, without even having an element of retribution. What can I do? at least this will keep the parasites away.
